Officially spring has sprung and we are slowly working our way towards it!
We have had some snow and warmth but I am ready for spring to be here and move into the warmer months. What does April mean to you?
To me, it signifies the end of winter as the flowers start to pop up and bloom – new growth and fresh starts! Many of our women are exactly there, looking for a fresh start and a new opportunity. As the second quarter of the year is upon us, and daylight savings time started, how will we spend your time in this new season?
We have been blessed by many individuals and businesses who have connected with us about volunteering and providing donations. Spring has sprung at The Sophie House and we look forward to seeing you bloom where planted and hope you will find your place here with us.
“I am just trying to stay focused and get my family back on track. I thank you for your advice. It really made a difference in how I viewed things, you helped me put things into perspective. I also thank you for the prayers. They are always needed and appreciated”
Support The Sophie House
Calling All Mothers and Mother Figures!
We will be kicking off our celebration of Special Women in our lives during the month of April and May. We are looking for amazing women that you would like to tell others about. We all have someone in our life – Mother, Grandmother, Teacher, Aunt, Cousin – who have helped mold us into the people we are today and The Sophie House wants to recognize these women in our community.
Be thinking about who you would nominate and then share on our Facebook Page the story of why she is so important to you. We will be accepting donations specifically during this period for our Housing and Supportive services programs that help our clients with the financial, emotional, and spiritual support needed to move toward independence. The Campaign kicks off April 12 and will run through Mother’s Day weekend.

“When I came here for help, it meant everything to me for somebody to help me
and talk through everything so I didn’t feel badly”
Our Next Community Event
The Sophie House 5K is coming June 2, 2018!
We look forward to partnering with Shady Grove UMC who will also be hosting a Health and Wellness event and a training team, warm ups before the race, and more. Registration is open now- we would love to have you join us as we raise funds to increase the support we can offer in our housing and supportive services programs. Become a fundraiser, join a group/team, volunteer, see sponsors and partners and more! Help us make this year the biggest race yet!
The Sophie House Yard Sale
We also have opportunities to donate items or reserve a spot for the upcoming Yard Sale on Saturday, April 14th! We will be accepting household donations and furniture will need volunteers to help, and would love to see you at the yard sale to search for amazing finds!

“I have been blessed by the Sophie House in many ways over the last three years. The kind and loving staff have been a great support system for me emotionally and financially”
The Sophie House in the Community
As I have mentioned in past newsletters, we are starting some great new opportunities for partnerships and growth.
Our partnership with Carla and Sisters Cleaning Service will be coming shortly. We have been approached by Cabi clothing stylists to be able to support our clients, Safe Harbor clients, and a few others with new clothes to start off these warmer months. We connected with Marti Williams and Into The Neighborhood to provide new undergarments to our clients that had been donated through their Mardi Bras RVA event too. We are also partnering with First Bank VA as they celebrate the Grand Opening of their Westhampton Branch – they have selected The Sophie House as one of the non-profits to vote on for a grant opportunity – click here NOW to vote! We are connecting with others in our community that can partner with us to serve our clients with the opportunities they may not have had in the past. We are so thankful for all the support.
Thanks so much to the Girl Scouts who helped plan and facilitate our Easter Egg Hunt this year!
