The 2017-2018 School Year is almost here!
Summer will soon come to a close, and the routines of the school year will soon settle. The Sophie House is committed to helping the families of our single moms start the school year off with their best foot forward.
“You lift me, when I am down and don’t have the strength to lift myself
because life has been so difficult at times”
With connections and opportunities, we believe anyone, both students, and moms, can achieve their fullest potential. Our enrichment activities and classes are here for YOU, our clients and community members. From navigating money management at our upcoming Finance Workshop to client updates and support from Rebecca and Kay at our Community Center, The Sophie House works to help women and families face life in the best frame of mind.
Last month’s Pampering Night was a testimony to this part of our mission, as we focused on self-care and meditation with the dedicated single mothers of our community. With professional massages from Tranquility Massage and hand and lip care treatments from Mary Kay, this opportunity offered a moment of relief from the stress of daily life.
“It was soothing to my soul.” – TSH client and Pampering Night Participant
We hope to continue to touch more women in this way as this month, we look to further relationships with clients and community sponsors. Thank you for your continued support and involvement!

Service Spotlight: Ms. Lisa and Tre, #SophieVolunteer
Meet Ms. Lisa and Tre!
Lisa and her son Tre are dedicated volunteers of The Sophie House. On Thursdays they pick-up bagel and pastry donations from Panera Bread, and they are active participants in community events at The Sophie House. We are blessed to have Lisa as the lead volunteer for our upcoming yard sale on August 26. Lisa’s commitment to TSH has inspired her and Lifepoint Church to give back with the gift of a deck renovation for us! Thank you to Lisa and Tre for all you do!

We are getting closer to Our Goal!
Big shoes, little shoes, fashionable shoes, durable shoes, basketball shoes, ballet shoes…everything goes!
Throughout 2017, we are partnering with Funds2Orgs to collect gently worn shoes of all kinds – yes, even Crocs®.. Funds2Orgs sends these shoes to families in developing countries who then sell or repurpose them.
Your old footwear will extend miles into someone else’s’ life, allowing the opportunity for individual families and their communities to operate micro-businesses and take those vital steps towards self-sustainability. The Sophie House will receive a contribution from Funds2Orgs for the shoes we collect.
Be a part of our fundraiser by coordinating a shoe drive at your office, in your neighborhood, with your girl scout or boy scout troop, youth group or family and drop off any type or size of shoe. Kickoff is officially September 15 and the collections extend through November 15.
Be on the lookout for collection boxes at your church, local community center, and the Shady Grove YMCA. Drop shoes at any location, still including The Sophie House Community Center. Help us reach our goal of 1000! Contact Us for information to start your own collection.
You can drop off your gently used shoes to the Community Center- 4771 Shady Grove Rd., Glen Allen, Virginia 23059
