Everyone needs a little help from time to time, and our food pantry provides access to food for single women, single moms, and their children. The Sophie House food pantry offers food, paper products, and toiletries to our qualifying and existing clients. If you are looking to become a client, please see this page and fill out our form.
Every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, our clients can come to the community center and essentially shop for food, toiletries and paper products that they need for their situation. Our clients can choose a variety of items from our non-perishable food collection depending on their dietary restrictions or allergies. The food pantry does offer bread and occasionally frozen foods.
For those looking solely for food pantry services, we are glad to provide you two visits per month. The mission of The Sophie House is to offer supportive services to help establish and maintain a stable home and we would love to be able to help in other ways too. What can you get at the Food Pantry?
Non-perishables, canned food, canned fruit, snacks, bread from Panera, baby food, cereal, diapers, wipes, full-size toiletries, soap, bath tissue, paper towels, hygiene items and occasionally frozen foods.
When is the Food Pantry open?
We are open Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We are occasionally open on holidays, but it is always better to call beforehand to confirm. We follow Henrico County School schedules for weather related closings.You can call us at (804) 658-5214.

How can you qualify for the Food Pantry
Being a client of The Sophie House qualifies you for use of the food pantry. You may use the food pantry up to twice a month or as needed and in emergency situations. For example, when hours at work are cut back or unexpected financial situations arise.

We are always looking for people to donate their time by:

If you haven’t volunteered with us before, we ask that you fill out a volunteer form here.
You, your business, or small group can also coordinate occasional or monthly food drives based on our current needs, A great way for employees and neighborhoods to help on a broad scale.

Is there a way to order food?
The Sophie House does not offer anything like this BUT we have a partnership with King Foods. King Foods is a cost effective way to order food for your family. The orders are placed online and distributed at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, another partner of The Sophie House. They are located at 11220 Nuckols Road Glen Allen, VA 23059
If you are unable to pay with a credit or debit card, a cash payment can be made to The Sophie House, and we will make a payment on your behalf. Please contact us to set this up at (804) 658-5214.

The Sophie House Food Pantry History
The Sophie House food pantry was created to ensure that our clients did not go without the basic necessities of life. Our first food pantry started at our previous community center. It was supplied by one of our church partners, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church parishioners and missions committee.
The community also made donations as we grew. We had, and still, have, connections at Shady Grove UMC and Christ Church Episcopal who would bring items weekly as well as a bible study group at Shady Grove YMCA.
In 2016, The Sophie House moved to our current location in Short Pump. Our new location allowed us to make the food pantry larger to meet the demands of our clients. With the growth of our new community center, we also offer additional services to our clients. You can find them here:
