The mission of The Sophie House is to provide Encouragement, Supportive Services, and Housing for single women and single women with children, that will move them from instability to stability.
Our clients face challenges like personal loss, divorce, complex health issues, poverty, unemployment or under-employment, and many others. No circumstance is too simple or too complex. Through case management and accountability, we are able to provide services such as housing referrals, counseling, education programs, and financial planning and budgeting. In addition, our community center houses a food pantry, a technology center, and meeting space for counseling, seminars, tutoring, enrichment programs, and Bible studies. In order to qualify for most programs and services, the woman must be single, employed at least 30 hours, and have reliable transportation and be willing to meet with staff and volunteers regularly to move toward independence and a stable life – these women have usually hit a stumbling block that has thrown them off course and they need someone to help get them back on track. The Sophie House is a safety net for those women who do not know where they can turn for answers and support.
