To provide Encouragement, Supportive Services, and Housing to single women and single women with children that will move them from instability to stability.
The Sophie House networks with investors and landlords who provide quality housing for the participants in our program. We also provide supportive services for women as well as their children. The supportive services include, but are not limited to, case management, counseling, financial planning and budgeting, tutoring, Bible study, educational seminars, and enrichment programs for both women and children. We also offer at the Community Center facility, a Food Pantry, Clothes Closet and Benevolence Ministry in partnership with Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

Rebecca Blackwell has been with The Sophie House since June 2014. While at The Sophie House, she has been able to use her communication skills to assist clients with expressing their needs for assistance and work through difficult situations. She has a passion for families and a heart for spreading the love of Christ to others.
Rebecca is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Business Administration and Management. Prior to coming to The Sophie House, Rebecca had a great deal of experience working with another non-profit teaching relationship skills, event planning, and coalition leadership. Before starting her family and work with The Sophie House, Rebecca had a career in banking, staffing, cosmetology, and sales management.
Rebecca has been married to a wonderful man, Mark, for over 20 years and they have 3 terrific children. Rebecca and her family are active members at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. She and her husband are involved in the marriage ministry, while their two daughters thrive in the student ministry, their older daughter is heading to colleg soon and thier son is in college and working.
